This is an exceptional and rare Remontoir Cylinder hunter style watch Remontoir means stem-wind."Remontoir" is not a brand name. Rather, it refers to the fact that the watch is stem wound, which indicates that this watch is early enough that key-winding was still common enough that the sellers thought this was a feature worth touting. In the back,on the meccanism cover,it’s written with carved letters “Remontoir Cylindre 10Rubis”. Believe it is a Swiss 10 jewel cylinder escapement watch. Many love the watch for the case, which looks to be in very fine condition and lovely design detail. The Imperial Crown and the Moon Crescent is the assay mark for German State and in use since 1888. 800 mark indicates silver. The winding mechanism appears to be rose gold and the loop is gold holding the gold handmade chain with gold 4 leaf clover slide has 2 opals and several small perhaps pearls. I don't presume to claim to know the purity of the gold or any other metals. If the dust cover is base metal, it should be marked "metal" or "Tcuivre" which I cannot find. The enamelling on the case looks fine. Hand painted roman numerals in very good condition. There is some scratching to the inside of the case. I am not an expert and am only describing based on research of similar marked Remontoir Cylinder watches and a online antique appraiser service. Guessing this watch probably dates between 1888 and came over from Germany with my ancestors in mid to late 1800's. This is a lovely heirloom and would be a fine piece for wear or collection. I try to describe all my items as accurately as possible as they may have some flaws and as they are rather old they will never be 100% perfect. I am not an antique dealer so please look at all photos carefully and happy to take additional photos.
