1824 Royalist countermark on an 1823 Peru Republican 8 Reales. This coin was minted by Revolutionaries and then countermarked by Royalists in Lima during the war for Peruvian Independence.
Coin has a pleasing deep, original toning. While the coin was given a VF grade by NGC, the host coin looks more like an XF and the coin is likely undergraded: there are even hints of luster beneath the deep toning that can be seen along the rim edges. But, this coin is almost impossible to find in any condition!
