La illy collection pensata da Kounellis esprime il gesto dell’artista che invece di decorare la tazzina ha deciso di intingerla nella vernice nera con un atto che nella sua unicità rappresenta una deliberata manifestazione della propria volontà e "umanità".
L'artista ha presentato l'originale della tazzina nel 2002 a Trieste. illy ha nel frattempo ideato un sistema che consente la riproduzione di questo gesto, mantenendone la caratteristica di unicità e irripetibilità. L’immersione della tazzina di porcellana bianca opaca nella vernice nera lucida viene realizzata con un movimento di volta in volta calibrato in modo differente e che produce, quindi, tazzine tutte diverse.

The illy collection designed by Kounellis expresses the artist's gesture that instead of decorating the cup has decided to dip it in black paint with an act that in its uniqueness is a deliberate manifestation of his will and "humanity."
The artist has presented the original of the cup in 2002 in Trieste. illy has now devised a system that allows playback of this gesture, maintaining the characteristic of uniqueness and individuality. The immersion of the cup in white porcelain matte black finish paint is made with a movement calibrated from time to time in different ways and that it has therefore cups all different.
