P-40

DESCRIPTION:  You are bidding on a book titled "Warpaint Series No. 77: Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk / Warhawk" by Kev Darling.

Derived from the earlier Curtiss 75 Hawk the in-line engined P-40 was an attempt to update the original design for more modern warfare. While the Warhawk would never gain the fame of other aircraft destined to play major roles in WWII, it would carve out a niche for itself in every theater. Not a world-beater, it was none-the-less steady, rugged and available. In the hands of experienced pilots, the P-40 was more than able to match its foes. It's most remembered role was with the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers), created to support the Chinese. Sporting leering shark mouths, these early aircraft, sometimes operating under desperate conditions, were flown to an impressive combat record against the forces of Imperial Japan. On a much larger scale, in service with the air forces of many nations, the Warhawk made its mark despite its lack of star qualities. Covers all versions of this unique naval aircraft and is illustrated with 57 full color profiles (including 1 with plan views) 83 b/w and 7 color photos and unique 1/72nd scale plans. Includes lists of units, production details, model kits, accessories and decals.

Soft cover. This book contains 40 pages with 83 black & white photos, 7 color photos and 57 full color profile illustrations.
