This is a Very Traditional Great Collector Quality Wedding Huipil from the Mixteco community of Pinotepa Nacional.  The double-headed bird is a typical design of this area of Oaxaca.  In some Mexican cultures birds are symbols of messengers or observers.  And they bring information to the Spirits.  I have also seen information where the two headed Bird can represent Marriage, as two people in one body, which would be appropriate on a Wedding dress.   This is a wonderful Huipil, you will not be disappointed!!!

The Base fabric is a bright White that is all hand woven on a Back Strap loom.  And the color is all hand embroidered on satin with lots of wonderful Creatures, Birds, bugs and plants like, corn, flowers etc.   See photos for all the critters....
