'The Green Man' carved in Spotted Stonehenge Bluestone  Preseli Dolerite (Bluestone) is a chemically altered (naturally) igneous rock containing Plagioclase Feldspar and Augite (a pyroxene mineral). It is medium grained dark and heavy rock, harder than granite. Preseli Bluestone tools, such as axes, have been discovered all over the British Isles. Ancient legends tell of the magical and healing properties of the Preseli Bluestone. This fantastic piece is a carved depiction of 'The Green Man' (a carved face surrounded by leaves which represents rebirth and the cycle of growth each spring) it is from the spotted Bluestone from the same location as the stones used in the original Stonehenge structure (the deposit of this spotted Bluestone is a protected site, this example has been collected from deposits carried off the mountain by glacial action and deposited nearby on private land). A superb item which is very well carved and measures approx. 5.5 cms x 5.4 cms x 1.0 cms at the widest points. Cut and polished from the very best material!!! Check out my other items!
