Extraction Method - Resin is released from the tree when the bark is incised. Pure Benzoin is a solid resin at room temperature therefore it is gently heated and combined with Castor Seed Oil (Ricinus communis) to render it more mobile. The dilution is 80% Castor to 20% Benzoin.

Aroma - The aroma is incredible, the opening note is like smelling a tin of shoe polish mixed with sticky frankincense resins and dry pine cones, the middle notes are frankincense resinous, cedarwood dry, and a tad fresh lemony. The base notes are warm resinous frankincense, dry pine, leather and again tinned shoe polish

Frankincense (Boswellia Serrata)

Botanical Name - Boswellia serrata

Aroma - Frankincense serrata aroma is rich resinous, pine cone, dry woody, dry pine,  with a lemony finish. This aroma sums up the aromatic environment of smelling a pine tree (maybe P. nigra) in the Summer, the sunshine warming the tree, and in turn the tree gives off that robust resinous aroma that saturates the air.

Frankincense (Boswellia Rivae)

Botanical Name - Boswellia rivae

Aroma - The best way to describe this rare and highly sought after frankincense oil would perhaps be to compare it to the more common varieties…Boswellia carteri is known for its fresh, lemon pine notes. Boswellia serrata is more resinous, woody and incensy than carteri. Now, move much further along the same spectrum, if you will, and there you’ll find Boswellia rivae with its powerfully dark resins and woods and where incense and spicy notes abound. There is little in the way of lemon or pine, but so, so much terpenic and spicy/camphorous/woody richness. After a time, carteri moves toward fir notes and becomes a little thin, serrata softens into quiet spiciness, whereas the monster rivae offers no such safe harbour, instead it continues pounding you with strong cedarwood and cypriol and even more darkly resinous notes. Leaving other frankincense oils for dead, this incredible oil is indispensable for the Boswellia enthusiast
