THE SMITHSONIAN COLLECTION OF CLASSIC JAZZ - 6LP Box -
Columbia Special Products P6-11891 –
ABSOLUTE BEST!

Without a doubt, the finest collection of original American jazz that you will ever find. Put together by the Smithsonian, in conjunction with Columbia Special Products, the "Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz" has everything from everyone.

Scott Joplin playing his own stuff. Jelly Roll Morton. Miles and Gil. Lennie and Lee. Monk, Mingus, and Louis. Dizzy, King Oliver, Bessie, Ella, Sarah, Billy---shoot!---it'd take a longer life to list it all, let alone listen.

Labels that participated in this project include Atlantic (Commodore), Biograph, Capitol, Blue Note, Decca, Fantasy-Prestige-Milestone, Pickwick, Flying Dutchman, Mercury, Verve, RCA Victor, Roulette, and Savoy, among others.

A truly remarkable set. Box is robust, but has flattened out somewhat, with all corners split, because it was kept horizontally. Records within, however, are fine indeed, flat, and should play near mint, being all ashine.

Note, too: Some discographies list this item as Mono. That is entirely incorrect. Recordings that were originally done in stereo, are presented here in that format.

Simply the finest collection of American jazz on vinyl.
