This auction is for an original, porcelain Texaco Fire Chief gas sign from 1963.

I believe this sign might have actually been mounted to an old gas pump because it retains a little of the curve that pump signs often have.  It’s only a little bit of a curve but that is likely because the previous owner had this displayed on a wall, flat, for the past 40 years.

I think the sign is in overall very good to excellent condition, but please look closely at the photographs and decide for yourself.  All the original rivets are still in sign.

The sign measures 12” x 18”.

I don’t know what the gray stuff is on the backside of the sign, primarily near the bottom.  I think it might be some sort of old adhesive?  Maybe to help it lay flat on gas pump?  I really don’t know and I have not tried to remove it.  I will leave that up to the lucky new owner.

Again, the photos tell the story, but overall this is a really nice sign.  Good luck!  Thank you.

***I am selling two rare Standard Oil bottles in separate auctions.  One of them is a “Polarine” bottle.  They are both in excellent condition.
