Laser and Diffraction Grating Set

Comes complete with:

      • 1 x Linear Diffraction Grating Slide (500 lines/mm).

      • 1 x Linear Diffraction Grating Slide (1000 lines/mm).

      • 1 x 2D Diffraction Grating Slide (200 lines/mm).

      • 1 x Dual Function (Red Laser and White LED) Light Source.

      • 3 Coloured Film Gels (Red, Green and Blue)

      • 3 x AG3 batteries.

The set will allow you to view the effects of diffraction on a monochromatic light source using the 650nm laser included, through both a linear grating:

In addition, the white-light feature of the source allows you to demonstrate the separation of the visible spectrum. This effect is shown below through the two dimensional grating:

These Holographic Diffraction Gratings are highly efficient embossed Holographic Optical Elements (H.O.E.). The quality of the spectrum produced from these gratings is the brightest possible with the minimum of distracting visual noise. Each grating is mounted in a ridged cardboard frame allowing ease of handling and use.

With these you can:

  • Project a spectrum using an overhead or 35mm slide projector
  • Demonstrate the adding and subtracting of colours using coloured film gels (now included with the kit)
  • Show the effect of varying light frequency (colour) on the diffraction angle (Bragg's Law)

Please note that the 2D diffraction grating is marked as 13500 lines/inch (which suggested around 500 lines/mm). However this has been measured as actually 200 lines/mm (Thanks to David of microscopy-uk ) and confirmed by the manufacturers "Rainbow Symphony".
