New Clutch, Self-Centering Clutch Release Bearing & Carrier. (This later style self centering Clutch thrust Release bearing and carrier is of the later self centering type as required and suitable for all Rover 5 speed 2wd applications.)
This bearing is not suitable for the Borg-Warner T5 or the earlier 4 speed transmissions but is suitable for all early Rover TVR Morgan and Marcos 5 speed transmission when using the V8 so long as you don't have the early 4 speed transmission.
Is this suitable for my Gearbox? This
self centering type, clutch release bearing is suitable for the 2wd LT77
(including the very rare LT77 4 speed) and R380 transmissions. These Transmissions are
used on many Rover V8 engined Variants, Morgan's, MG's, SD1, TVR's, to name just a few. We do also have solutions for the 4wd pre 1976 transmission applications and 4 wheel drive variants. Please note if you are using this with the earlier LT77 gearbox there are small modifications that are needed, please inquire.
Do I need to replace my Release bearing? Even
if your release bearing is not in need of replacement, we would still
suggest that whenever a clutch assembly is changed, it is certainly a
very good idea to change the release bearing at the same time, especially as they cost so little. This will save having your car off
the road unnecessarily to change the release bearing later on.

The following information on Clutch assembly, 'Terminology and description'...
is for your guidance only as this listing is for the release bearing and
carrier only.
- Clutch cover plate, also often called Pressure plate.
This
bulky but complex device bolts directly to the flywheel of your
engine and is responsible for providing the required friction
pressure of the clutch drive (driven) plate (disc). It is positioned
between the cover plate and the engines flywheel to ensure no slip on
the clutch plate when driving. But it must also, be light enough with
its spring resistance pressure and offer complete smoothness in its
operation to allow for fine clutch take up, not only for changing gears
through acceleration but also for comfortable, precise slow speed
needs, encountered when driving around town.
- Clutch driven (drive) plate, also called Clutch friction plate (disc).
Neatly
sandwiched between the Flywheel and the the Pressure plate as described
above. The drive plate provides top quality friction surfaces on both
sides to provide the best grip on the flywheel and cover plate. It also incorporates correct tensioned springs to ensure a smooth take up
without juddering or snatch, as well as keeping clutch temperatures as
low as possible for those traffic jam and heavy town traffic situations.
- Clutch Release Bearing or 'thrust' bearing.
This
small but essential devise transmits the motion of your clutch pedal
through the clutch system to engage & disengage the drive. It is a
very important item to ensure your transmission is smooth in operation for all the same reasons as listed above. Early type release
bearings where mostly designed as a metal carrier shaft and a facing
ball race style release bearing. Modern replacements are now normally
of a one piece synthetic material construction with a self centering
low friction style bearing and is far more a reliable unit and normally
is a simple direct replacement to earlier styles - in most cases.
