Please read this before bidding!
Micromounts are specimens which require magnification (sometimes
a lot) for proper appreciation, so please be aware of this when purchasing and
read the measurements of the specimen carefully to make sure you know the size
of what you are ordering. Many of these specimens will not look like anything
of value without good magnification!!
Thumbnail specimens are specimens that fit in a 1.25 inch
(~3.3cm) plastic box, which should give you an idea of scale.

Please note the changes to my shipping policy:
Shipping for thumbnails and micromounts will now be
$3.50 for unlimited (well, as many as will fit, maybe 10 or so) specimens in
the U.S. and Canada using a paper envelope (this has proven to be safe and
reliable, but there is always some risk).
Priority mail is an option for $7.00, this will put the specimen in a
box and is therefore recommended for more valuable specimens. Worldwide shipping will be $4.00 for a paper
envelope, but this is not recommended except for micromounts. Boxed shipping will be available now for $6
for 1 or 2 specimens, and $10 for 3 or more (the weight of the bigger box
drives this cost up). I will invoice you
for the recommended shipping method, but you may choose the other. I normally ship within 2-3 business days of
payment, please inform me BEFORE bidding if you need something shipped faster!
If you wish for higher
security, registered mail is available for $12.00 just add this amount onto
your normal shipping fee. I will now require registered mail on all
international orders over $100 for security reasons
International customers- Please note that import duties, taxes or charges are not included in the item price or shipping fees and are the buyer’s responsibility. While most countries do not have such taxes on mineral specimens, you should check in your own country to be sure before bidding/buying.
If you want to bid on future auctions and combine shipping over several sets, I have no problem holding your specimens for up to 3 weeks while you build up a pile to mail together. If you wish to take advantage of this, please just put in a note when you pay that you would like the material held.
I BUY COLLECTIONS!
Contact me if you are interested in selling your collection of rare or unusual mineral specimens.
A note on IDENTIFICATION of rare species: unless I state otherwise, identifications of species are based on mine or my source’s visual inspection of the specimen. I don’t think most people bother to say anything about it, but this is normal with rare species, and you shouldn’t be fooled into thinking that just because someone says that’s what it is, that they are right. A knowledgeable collector with a good photo library and a good microscope can do amazingly well, but there is always a chance they are wrong. Even if a specimen has been analyzed by EDS, there is still often some uncertainty, as this technique only tells the elements present in the sample and perhaps the rough formula if the measurement goes well. It provides no data on the structure. I will try to note when there is significant uncertainty into the ID of a species. If you think one of my ID’s is wrong, please let me know, so I can try to check it!
