This lovely bustle cage was custom made NEW from a Laughing moon Bustle pattern. This is the shorter version of the lobster cage bustle that adds the astonishing lovely shaping to the bustle dresses and gowns that feature trains.We use PERMANENT PRESS MUSLIN fabric.  A set of stays are built into the bustle to control the shaping. The stays are adjusted by loosening or tightening the drawstrings laced in grommets. This bustle undergarment was popular during the "Bustle Revival Period from 1883 to 1889. The waistline has thin but strong narrow belting to reduce bulk around the  waist. The waistband opens and closes with industrial hook and bars. This bustle can be custom ordered in any size from a 22 waist to a 52 waist. Bustles, should be custom fitted to your size.In the pictures we are showing a  bleached white muslin bustle with hook and bar closures at the waist.The tighter you pull the drawstring stays, the more curved bustle projection you will have. The looser the drawstrings are, the less curved projection you will have. If you remove the drawstring, the bustle becomes flat, with no shaping, and cannot be worn without the drawstrings. The bustle is collapsible, meaning it will fold in like an umbrella while you are sitting. There is an art to sitting while wearing any bustle. As in the days of old, the ladies sat near the middle area of chairs, away from the chair backs, and held very straight posturing. They understood how to gracefully lift the dresses and bustles at the back to prepare for proper seating. Since most dresses of those years were longer, they were able to sit as if they were royalty.
