The VideoMic Pro is a refined and compacted version of the world’s most popular on camera shotgun mic, the VideoMic.

Much like its predecessor, it connects via 3.5mm mini-jack, can be mounted directly onto a camera hotshoe or alternatively on a boom pole or pistol grip if required. It runs on a 9v battery and comes with a handy windshield and also has the same high pass filter which can be switched on to reduce low frequency handling noises.

There are several reasons to consider the VideoMic Pro over the standard VideoMic, firstly the microphone capsule its self provides superior quality sound. It features a high resolution ½” super cardioid condenser, which provides broadcast quality sound. Secondly, with its +20db boost, it leaves you able to set your camera’s input mic level far lower. DSLRs are notorious for having poor quality pre-amps, introducing hissing noises into in-camera sound recording. By using the +20db boost feature, the in-camera recording level can be lowered, eliminating the majority of this hissing. The final advantage is the compactness of the unit. This makes it lighter, less likely to get damaged, easier to transport and simpler to accommodate onto a rig.
