ITEM DESCRIPTION

This watch was a lucky estate find, it is an exceptional example of a c.1949 Hamilton dress watch, the Franklin. This series of Hamilton watches is a favorite of mine, these watches show a level of sophistication worthy of dress wear. The case materials were the 10K gold fill used in the Hamilton timepieces of this era. The geometric case is elegant and its proportion is handsome. It measures 23mm (25mm w crown) X 30mm, and only 8mm thick. The measure from lug end to lug end is 39mm. The stunning cream dial is viewed through a flat, rectangular crystal, which is showing a couple of scratches, quite well for an original glass, crystal.

This original un-touched dial with its gold applied markers is a joy to behold. On the beautiful cream color dial we see applied raised gold numerals at the even positions and raised gold square markers at the odd positions. The dial perimeter is marked with a rectangular shaped outer chapter in black with indicators at each minute mark and a similarly shaped and marked sub seconds chapter is mirrored at the 6 o’clock position - at the bottom center of the watch face. Case condition is exceptional showing only minor wear marks, and no brassing. There are no significant scratches, bumps or dings to the case. The crown is correct. This watch shows very well. Please see photos for exterior condition details.

Moving inside the case back it reads Hamilton Watch Co., LANCASTER PA , 10K Gold Filled, L 575105, L&K. All components and numbers indicate that this watch is all original (excepting the band). The watch is powered by one of the famous watch engines, the Hamilton caliber 980, 17 jewel, (S# G666737). Note the parallel lines (Geneva Lines) expertly executed across the entire highly polished plate. The beauty of these movements is overwhelming. Their compact design, the beauty of the train, the plate engraving, along with their impeccable record of timekeeping, all speak to the dedication of the Hamilton watchmakers. The idea that these movements were so beautiful yet would only be seen by other watchmakers, exemplifies the level of excellence these artisans demanded of themselves. This particular movement runs well and winds and sets smoothly, and is keeping time for the past few weeks as I have been wearing it. She is ready for daily wear.

The watch is belted with a new, Kreisler band, executed in a dark brown Genuine Lizard skin, with gold hardware.

Best of luck & thank you for dropping by to take a look at another of my vintage watches.        bleubenz0
