The 3M™ Electric Random Orbital Sander 28427 is a replacement tool for the non-vacuum sander included in the 3M™ Electric Random Orbital Sander Kit 28524. This professional-grade tool packs a punch with its whisper-quiet brushless 0.20–0.24 HP motor and low-profile, ergonomic design. Designed to optimize the performance of 3M™ abrasives in operations where dust is not an issue, it features a 5" diameter suitable for most applications, and a 3/16" orbit ideal for general purpose applications. Offering consistent performance along with the convenience of portability for off-site operations, it provides a quality alternative to an air-powered sander when an air supply is unavailable or inadequate. The circuitry and motor are totally encased in the tool to prevent failure from airborne contaminants, increasing the life of the tool. This sander is an excellent choice for moderate professional use; electric sanders are not designed for long-term continuous running.
High Performance, Superior Ergonomics
Designed with the operator in mind, the 3M™ Electric Random Orbital Sander (ROS) has a whisper-quiet precision-balanced motor for smoother running, and incorporates numerous ergonomic features for expert handling and superior comfort, beginning with the low-profile design. This electric sander is smaller and lighter than traditional electric sanders, and the composite cover is completely encased with 3M™ Gripping Material, increasing operator control while absorbing and reducing vibration. To reduce stress on the wrist and hand, the tool is designed with an extended curved wrist rest, which provides additional leverage as well. The grip diameter on the tool is 2-3/4", and two additional grip sizes are available (with diameters of 2-1/2" and 3", sold separately) to fit operator preference. These features enable professional performance with less operator effort and fatigue.
Using Your Electric Sander
As a safety function, the sander will automatically switch to “Stand-By” mode anytime it is left un-used for 5 minutes. To switch the tool to "Run" mode, the operator simply presses one of the speed control buttons on the back of the sander. The 3M Electric Random Orbital Sander has three preset maximum speeds: 7,000; 9,000; and 10,000 RPM. The default speed is 9,000 RPM, but the speed can be changed at any time while the sander is running or when it is stopped and still in “Run” mode.
Required Accessories
This product includes the sander only and operation requires a 3M Power Supply with AC Power Cord (PN 28436), and a 3M Low Voltage DC Power Cord (PN 28435). Each of these products can be purchased separately, and can be used with any 5" or 6" 3M Electric ROS, or they can be purchased together with the sander in 3M™ Electric Random Orbital Sander Kit 28524, which includes both the tool and the 3M power supply and cords.
3M™ Stikit™ Disc Pad Included for Optimal Performance
3M sanders provide optimal performance when paired with 3M disc pads and abrasives. The box includes one 5" 3M™ Stikit™ Low Profile Disc Pad 20351 recommended for flat sanding operations, for use with 5" Stikit discs (sold separately).
