Here is 1 of a number of items from the late Lord Boston's (1930-2011) collection of Queen Victoria related items, he had a most interesting life. After serving in the RAF National Service and getting a Degree in Law, he joined the BBC where he produced current affairs programmes. He was then called to the bar by the Inner Temple in 1960. He was very much into politics and had been a member of the Labour party since he was 16. He won the Faversham bi-election in 1964 and was created a life peer on Harold Wilson's resignation in 1976. He spent 10 years being a chairman of a broadcasting company and then went back to Westminster where he served as Deputy Speaker until 2011. Lord Boston was an avid collector and we used to bump into him at the live auctions as well as here on ebay. It is with the greatest of pleasure that we offer here for ALL collectors around the world some of the most unusual and one-off UNIQUE items he had collected over the years. Be assured all the items are from his vast personal collection. We are all very fortunate to have the oppotunity to buy them once again. These will be gone in no time...
This is an antique clockwork wind-up, musical CDV album which is working but needs attention.
The Victorian Album.
A record of Her Majesty's glorious reign ..from drawings by J.F. WEEDON..published by John Harrop Manchester.
The title page is a little grubby looking...with Queen Victoria portrait on the opposite page.
Some of the pictures are coloured and some are sepia coloured.
There is 1 postcard photograph in it...this is NOT a cdv card that this book is design for......it is of 2 men and 2 dogs.
It can hold 38 cdv cards which vary in size... oval 4 x 5 inch - rectangular 4 x 5.5 inch - oval 2 x 3.5 inch - rectangular 2 x 3.5 inch.
Inside, it contains illustrations and pictorials of important events during Queen Victoria's reign. It stands on 4 small feet so the album's gilt tooled embossed leather cover will no get damaged when laid flat.
It is in collectable condition....I have seen far worse albums. Afew of the slots for the CDVs are ripped - torn inside. There is a small amount of use wear on the outside as can be expected... corners - edges and spine.... There has been a few repairs on the inside spine...front cover ..see the brown tape..
I have just found a KEY for the musical part at the back... wound it and the clockwork movement works fine...( I will be sending the key with it ) it does NOT stop though when the album is closed as it should do... the brass BOOK CLASP is fine.. but the wire from it to the lever inside the movement is damaged so this is broken.. the GLASS that covers the movement is missing as well.
The book clasp works fine.. it is spring loaded.. to allow for more cdv inside and to open it .. just push up and it opens.. etc.
The pictures are on 30 pages....we have only photographed a few as not to spoil your suprize when you open it.. it is a VERY good pictorial album..
Please feel free to ask any questions about this item.
This album measures approx. 12 inches x 9 inches x 3 inches.
