Basic Description: The Featherweights are light weight portable table top all metal sewing machines. The Featherweights have always been a favorite with quilters for their reliability, easy transport, and a superlative straight stitch. Made from the mid 1930s though the early 1970s Featherweights came in 2 basic models with several variations. A model 301 was also added in the late 1950's.

222 Specifications: This machine model made only in Great Brittan and only for a few years, has a light aluminum body, weighing in at just 12 lbs. It is a Straight stitch machine with full reverse feed, adjustable stitch length, dropping feed dogs, and has a removable sleeve for free arm work.

It takes low-shank attachments and easy screw-on low shank feet that are still available today. The 222 also has a few exclusive attachments including a quilting/darning foot and a fabric hoop.

The featherweight machines use standard and easy to find 15x1 sewing machine needles. They have side load bobbins and thread from right to left for great visibility. This machine has consistent stitching at any speed. It has a reliable singer front mounted light. The stitch lengths range is from 6-30 stitches per inch. .

These shiny black machines are sought after by collectors as they are well made, compact, reliable and easily portable with pretty gold decals. They are belt driven with all metal gears.

Details: This little machine with a serial EN136373 dates to March 17Th 1958. It sews very well and is in excellent cosmetic condition, with just a very few small nicks or a few pin scratch and a complete set of decals. It was last cleaned and adjusted in April of 2015 at S&S sew and Vac of Poughkeepsie NY.

It comes from Killbow Scotland with its original 220 V motor, and will require an up voltage step up transformer. 100 amp transformer or more is recommended. A good quality step-up 100 amp transformer will be included with this machine.

It sews beautifully. It sews easily through layers of denim, through layers of clothes leather, or through delicate sheers. These machines can sew mid to light weight fabrics, but they are not the best machines for sewing dense heavy materials. They are considered the ultimate portable quilters machine.

Be sure to use the right gauge needle for the material being sewn. This machine uses standard 15x1 needles and the 221 class bobbin.

The users manual included describes how to oil and lube, use the attachments, and adjust the tension for different fabrics, as well as describing the use of the attachments.
