Alphonse Mucha - Feather & Primrose - 2 Art Glass Panels

The Primrose, 1899 Art Glass Panel by Alphonse Mucha is adapted from a color lithograph. It was originally called Flower, but after the publication of the Flowers series, its name was changed to Primrose. It was originally printed on vellum paper and sold for 12 francs as well as with a more luxurious version printed on silk satin available for 40 francs.

The Feather, 1899 Art Glass Panel by Alphonse Mucha is also adapted from a color lithograph and was the first of the Primrose and Feather panels to be published. The geometric mosaic motif contrasts with the floral ornamental circle inspired by nature in the companion piece Primrose. A version of this design was also used to advertise the J. Royer printing company.

On each glass panel, enamel colors are individually applied to a single sheet of glass which is then kiln fired to permanently fuse the enamels to the glass. The glass panels are then framed with a copper patina metal came for an antique feel, and include hanging chains and clear acrylic stands for desk or table display. Dimensions: Ht: 12”. W: 5” each.

Alfons Maria Mucha (1860-1939), often known in English and French as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist best known for his distinct style. He produced many paintings, illustrations, and advertisements as well as designs for jewelry, home furnishings and theatre sets. This art glass panel has been developed in association with The Mucha Foundation, an independent, non-profit charity devoted to preserving and conserving the Mucha Trust Collection.
