The Mexico has been released in varius colors over the years. It was the first model to feature the stripes on the side of the upper section. However, they serve a greater need then mere aesthetics. Known as Tiger stripes, they are specifically designed to add support to the foot whilst running.
The extremely lightweight upper made this shoe ideal for sprinting. In fact, it was the first endorsed by the Japanese athletics team at the 1968 Olimpic Games. The suede toe piece added durability to what was a clean and simple model in Onitsuka range.

The Mexico is infamous for being worn by Bruce Lee in his film 'Game of Death' in 1978, which also starred Kareem Abdul-Jobbar.
In Tarantino's Kill Bill Volume 2, Bill wears the Mexico 66's as he prepares to meet The Bride for their final showdown. The Bride, as she receives the legendary sword from ninjitsu master Hattori Hanzo, also wears the same shoe in blue and white.
