A
Henbury Iron Meteorite from Australia
Description:
Iron meteorite fragment Weight: 4.9 grams Class: Iron meteorite,
medium octahedrite, type IIIAB Approximate dimensions: 20 mm x 13 mm x 7 mm Date and location of original find:
Northern Territory, Australia. 1931 Notes: Attractive
fragment with natural patina. This piece was found while filming
Meteorite Men, Season Two, Episode Eight. A genuine
television collectible!
The
Henbury iron was first discovered in 1931 and is associated
with a spectacular group of impact craters in central Australia.
Most Henburys show shrapnel-like features, likely caused by
fragmentation upon impact. Natural Henbury irons display one
of the best desert patinas of any meteorite — a reddish-orange
color slowly acquired over hundreds of years. The Henbury Crater
Field is now protected by the Australian government and meteorite
hunting is no longer allowed. As a result Henbury meteorites
are now very difficult to obtain.
During
the summer of 2010, Geoff and Steve, filmed the
final second season episode of their television series Meteorite
Men at the Henbury Crater Field, with the special assistance
and permission of the Australian Parks Service. Geoff personally
found this piece while filming, and it is accompanied by a signed
certificate of authenticity and a photo of me at the Henbury
Craters (see below). This meteorite was legally exported from
Australia with an official governemnt export permit.
A
classic and important iron meteorite, and a great TV collectible,
with no reserve!
All
specimens we sell are accompanied by an official specimen identification
card and guaranteed 100% authentic and as described. Meteorite
sales directly fund future expeditions and research which, in
turn, generate new published works and television documentaries.

I visited the amazing Henbury crater field in the summer of
2010 while filming Season Two of our award-winning series Meteorite
Men. Above is a photograph of me inside one of the smaller
craters. Do
