I have been needle felting for many years and I have tried and tested many products I only sell products that I would use myself and consider to be the best. I am a sculptural artist and for that it is vital to have a wool that is easy to form into shapes. I have found most wool sellers selling to Needle Felters only sell tops (or roving which is usually not roving at all but wool tops). Tops are great for spinners and also good for wet felters but not great for needle felters.  I therefore am very happy to bring to my store  Short Fibre Carded Merino batting. The BEST  wool for sculptural artists, but also fab for wet felters too.  This wool is dyed with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified dyes which means no harmful or illegal chemicals have been used and the wool is safe to use for toys and baby clothes.

Why this wool is the best for felters:

This wool felts super fast. It is truly the best wool I have ever used for needle felting, because of the short fibres you can achieve a really smooth finish and because it is a carded batt rather than  a combed top you do not get the lines and needle holes you can get with tops.( see below for a guide on wool terms) Combed tops are great for hair and fur but for sculptural needle felting carded batts are so much easier to use, and so much faster to felt than a top. The hairs on a batting are brushed into different directions rather than all the same way as on a top which makes it felt together allot quicker. This wool is also great for wet felting and gives a strong felt it comes in rolag form so is super for things like scarves ect.

Wool terms: (because it is sooo confusing!)
Batting, The wool is scoured, picked of debris and then carded in a drum or by hand, the finished product is called a rolag. Carding is like brushing and the result is a lofty spongy like wool super for needle felting.

Wool roving
, is long ropes of brushed batting rather than a rolag which is like a sheet. Allot of people confuse roving with a wool top because they are both in ropes, but roving is actaully rare to come by and most people selling roving are actually selling wool tops.

Wool tops.
This is roving that has been combed so that all the hairs lie in the same direction, it is usually long fibres as that is what remains after the procedure. Tops are originally produced for spinners but can be good for needle felting hair or fur. It is also good for wet felters.

I always post within two days of payment but it is nearly always within one day. The listing is for second class postage  but for just 50p more you have the option of first class at the checkout.

I am sure you will love this wool as much as I do, if you have any problems at all please do not hesitate to contact me. I will include a card with your order should you wish to ask my advice on anything.

Best Wishes and Happy Felting,
