We are selling this great looking cut and polished 1970s Exbor glass vase. It was designed by Oldrich Lipsky in c1964.

This post-war czech glass vase has a colourless square section tapering body flashed in green glass, the corners cut with columns of undulating curves. It still has its original 'Exbor Czechoslovakia' mark acid etched on the base.

A green unmarked version is valued at £250-£350 in Miller's "Collectables" 2016-2017 on page 203 but this one has its acid etched mark.

Similar vases are also referenced in Mark Hill's book "High Sklo Low Sklo" where it states:

"The depth of the optical effect cleverly changes depending on the side it is viewed from. As with many Exbor products, this design is found in a large variety of different colours and sizes, and was produced for a long period of time. Beware of unmarked examples as this design was produced by other factories with simpler cuts, brasher colours and in less well made and poorer proportioned forms.

The vase is:

21cm (8 inches) high;

5cm (2 inches) wide at the base;

8cm (3 inches) wide at the rim;

and weighs 1.1kg (2.5 pounds).

It is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, scratches or bruises. There are a couple of very small fleabites on the rim and on one of the cuts but these are only visible on very close inspection and do not take away from the splendour of the piece.

During the communist occupation of Czechoslovakia a huge array of beautiful and innovative pieces were designed and produced. Due to the closed door nature of communism, many of these pieces are only now being discovered and documented.
