A good Brazil Model 1880 heavy cavalry sword that was made by the German firm Alex Coppel Solingen. This good looking piece has a wide sheet metal guard that is marked EUB that stands for Estados Unidos do Brasil.   All tight with no looseness.  36” heavy blade is 1 ¼” wide at the guard and has an ‘A’ proof mark on the spine of the blade. Blade is bright with a scattered dark grey and some light scattered pitting. A nice two piece checker leather grips are held by 5 rivets per side with a nice tight fit to all. Correct original scabbard has 2 hanger rings and a nice plum brown finish with several small dings and a missing screw in the throat. A very tough to find decent condition South American cavalry sword with sharp nice clear Brazil markings.
