3dfx RETRO GAMING PC - Voodoo 5500 64mb - AMD 3000+ 2GB DDR333 VORTEX 250GB 7.2K
This is the ultimate purist 3dFX Voodoo 5500 gaming rig.
RUNS THESE OLD GLIDE GAMES way better than more modern hardware can, if you play these old games hacked and with wrappers to run on newer os/hardware they run glitchy and the sound is just not the same at all.
There are some Rare,and collectible, parts used in this PC.
Obviously the 3DFX 5500 but also the KT3 Ultra2 and PC05 case are all hard to find in this excellent condition.
I built it to pay homage to the awesome 3DFX Glide games of the late 90's and early 2000's.
I have been building PCs since the 90s and have configured this with specific parts to provide the best Gaming experience possible.
It will run any 3DFX GLIDE supporting game with ease as its spec is far higher than was available at the time.
Also has MESA FX openGL drivers for running D3D games like UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004 ect
Love has gone into the designing ,sourcing , constructing and configuration of this rig.
All parts have been thoroughly tested and cleaned.
There are no bad capacitors in the PSU or on the MB.
I have upgraded the Hard disk to a modern 250GB WD enterprise SATA drive which is faster and will last far longer than an old IDE disk.
I have also added USB 2.0 card so there are now 2 front and 2 rear fast USB 2.0 ports, which is a massive improvement over the onboard USB 1 ports.
here is the full breakdown of parts
CASE = LIAN LI PC-05 - utterly gorgeous 100% aluminum construction.these were high end cases when all other PC cases were horrible beige plastic!
CPU = AMD ATHLON 3000+ AXDA3000DKV4D - This is the fastest AMD ATHLON available that will work with an AGP 4x motherboard.
GPU = 3DFX VOODOO 5 5500 64MB AGP - A true collectors item the last and greatest Card ever released by 3DFX (these are selling for upto £200 ATM) (pic 10-11)
MB = MSI KT3 Ultra2 socket 462 - The Only AGP 4x board I have found that can run an AMD XP 3000+ (these are extremely rare as they were expensive when new)
RAM = 2GB CRUCIAL DDR 333 -2 x 1GB which is far more than any games from this era will use even on max settings.
HD = Western Digital WD250ABYS ENTERPRISE 250GB SATA 7200rpm inc SATA to IDE adapter - Far faster than an old IDE/PATA drive and less likely to fail
SOUND = TURTLE BEACH AUREAL - VORTEX WAVETABLE pci - Gives FPS boost over CREATIVE CARDS & sounds better than creative soundblaster for this era,also has good DOS compatibility if you need it
PSU = SEASONIC SS - 350ET 350W 120mm fan SILENT - This is a modern part I added to provide better longevity than a 15+ year old PSU.also is silent too unlike the older PSUs which all had noisy 80mm fans.
USB = NEC USB 2.0 pci card 4 ports - As MB USB are only USB 1.0,this makes transferring data to/from PC far faster.
LAN - 3COM 3C905X-TX pci LAN card - there is no lan onboard but I sourced this 3com unit as it has excellent DOS/95/98/XP driver support,and does the work so CPU can run games more efficiently.
DVD - SONY Combi CD Burner and DVDrom - works a treat,and I have installed burning software for backups ect.
OS = Windows XP HOME - fully updated and activated with COA sticker on the inside of case (pic 8)
MISC = 3 x 80mm fans for great ventilation - the front intake is filtered so the case stays nice and clean.
Cosmetically the case is in very good condition overall with only light marks here and there.See PICS.
Windows has been fresh installed and updated to latest official SP3 to get the latest security patches ect.
I have also optimized the Windows Config for gaming by turning off unneed background services that can cause poor performance while multiplayer Gaming.
