The Sanshin is a three stringed musical instrument with a distinct tone from Okinawa, Japan. Shamisen's origin is Sanshin.The main parts of the sanshin are:
the neck(sou)
handcrafted from a single piece of wood.
the body(dou)
traditionally a snakeskin covered drum.
three strings
the word sanshin literally means 'three strings' in Japanese.
