#2 Wasp #2 C-1  This is a Mahogany wasp showcased in a glass dome display.  The dome is approx. 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" and has a wood bottom.

The mahogany wasp is one of at least 22 paper wasps found throughout the United States. Their comb nests are found hanging in a variety of environments, from the twigs and branches of shrubs and trees to porch ceilings and the tops of window and door frames. These semisocial wasps live in small colonies and spend their time feeding on caterpillars, flies, other smaller insects and nectar.   Mahogany Wasps are a variety of paper wasp. They get their common name from the paper-like material out of which they make their nests. Paper wasps are sometimes called umbrella wasps, after the shape of their distinctive nests. They are very aggressive and have a "mean" sting!
