This VANOS gear has been taken apart and cleaned completely of sludge and dirt. It is as new.
Check other listings and you'll see the amount of dirt that is introduced by breakers. Even the smallest bit of dirt caught in the gear can cause significant or terminal damage to the engine via the camshafts journals, rod bearings, pistons etc.
Cleaning the gear is a time consuming process, but you can be assured there are no contaminants that will be introduced into your cylinder head upon installation. I have lubricated the gear with Castrol 10w60 Edge Professional that I use in my own M5 E60.
