This is a very nice looking and hard to find log/board gauge/measure/rule. 

It is marked “Lufkin Rule Co., Saginaw, Mich.”. It is about 42 inches long. It has a handle with an inlaid insert of a darker wood than the main body of the rule. There is some minor separation of the inlay and the outer portion of the handle. 

It has an square brass (?) board hook with no markings. Numbers are pressed into the sides AND EDGES of this rule. They are clear and the original coloring used to highlight them is crisp and bright. There are two darker areas along the rule, each about 2 inches long that look like they were applied intentionally, perhaps at the time of manufacrure. 

There are no breaks or cracks. It has a narrow edge chip about 2 inches long right next to the board hook and 2 smaller chips near where "Decimal Scale C – Wisconson Legal Standard" is pressed into the wood on the opposite side from the Lufkin marking. Those are visible in my scan of that marking. 

This rule has a bend/curve/warp in it of about 1 inch which causes the rule to rise about 2 ½ inches off a level surface when held in a “resting” position on it’s side. Given the size of the board hook, the normal rise would probably be about 1 ½ inches. The finish shows little if any sign of wear. I doubt very much that it has ever been refinished although I cannot say for sure. I expect this is one of the better examples of this piece.
