This is a lovely larger size bisque head German girl doll. Incised on the back of her bisque head is 'Simon & Halbig K * & R Germany'. No mold number present.

She measures approximately 26" tall with a bisque socket head on a composition jointed body. She is jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and above the knees. Her face has brown glass sleepy eyes (they open and close), with eye lashes (real hair and painted ones), feather painted eyebrows, an open mouth with defined lips and upper teeth. Her cheeks are rosy.

I believe she wears her original clothing: sheer cotton dress with lace trim and satin sash and button closures down the back, over a cotton slip with tucking and trim, as well as pantaloons with lace edging. She has shoes with buckles and knit socks. She has a satin bow in her hair.

She has a dark blond wig with a pate -- believed to be original.

She was purchased in an antique shop in 1971 for $150 (receipt also states that she has her original clothes).

History:
Simon & Halbig was founded in 1839. They began making dolls from 1869 in their two porcelain factories near Thuringia, Germany. They are known for their fine bisque doll heads and innovations in the doll industry. They also supplied doll heads to many other well-known doll manufacturers.

The Kammer & Reinhardt doll company was formed in 1886 in Waltershausen, Thuringia, Germany. K & R bisque doll heads and bodies were designed by them, but most heads were manufactured by Simon & Halbig, which is why heads bear both marks. From 1886 to 1909 K & R made only dolly-faced dolls with a bisque head on a composition ball jointed or kid body, many with an open mouth and teeth.

Please note, that I am not an expert on vintage dolls, so if you have any questions, please e-mail me prior to bidding. I am describing her as best as I can. I was afraid to remove her clothing (due to their delicate nature). Please see all photographs. Sold as is.
