An original 8" x 10" still from the MGM film MARIE ANTOINETTE (1938) directed by W. S. Van Dyke (director of the 1932 classic TARZAN THE APE MAN, and the first THIN MAN film in 1934) and starred Norma Shearer, Tyrone Power, John Barrymore, Robert Morley, Gladys George and Joseph Schildkraut.

ABOUT THE 1938 MGM FILM: MARIE ANTOINETTE was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1938 and was directed by W. S. Van Dyke. The screenplay was based upon the 1932 biography of the ill-fated Queen of France by the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig. The film was the last project of Irving Thalberg, Norma Shearer's husband (his last completed film project was THE GOOD EARTH). Irving Thalberg died in 1936 while the film was in the early planning stages. His widow, Norma Shearer, remained committed to the project even while her enthusiasm for her film career in general was fading following his death.
We have recently purchased an entire set of photographs from this film.
The film was MGM’s project #1030 and each still is numbered in the lower left corner or lower right corner ‘1030-xxx’. This particular still is numbered ‘1030-280’.
