DISC 1 & 2: PAL Compatibility & Region Free Firmware

This Firmware Update was never made available via Toshiba's website.  This update come on two discs and enables you to watch DVD's from every region in the world.  While the HD DVD format itself was region free, nevertheless, this player could only view standard DVD's from Region 1 (North America). 

Once installed, this is corrected and your player is able to view any DVD from any country in the world at near HD Quality!

DISC 3: Version 4.0 Firmware Update

This is the final and best firmware upgrade that Toshiba made for the HD-A35 HD DVD player, but it wasn't released until after the HD DVD format was discontinued in 2008. Therefore none of these players came with this firmware pre-installed when they left the factory.  This V4.0 firware disc has been specially adapted to make it fully compatible with your Region Free Discs, and is not available from any of Toshiba's websites!  This update addresses several technical issues that can occur when playing certain films.   This includes problems with video freeze ups, audio drop-outs, sound sync problems, slow Disc loading, and  ‘jaggies’ when the video output is set to 1080p /24fps   This update also corrects other reliability issues that previous firmware upgrades failed to address as well as including all the benefits from previous updates.  Even if you already have V4.0 installed, you will still need this disc again, as your player will require updating again after the Region Free Installation.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CUSTOMERS IN NTSC TELEVISION REGIONS

If you live on the American Continent, Japan and parts of Eastern Asia that use the NTSC TV system,  your TV must be multi-standard and able to receive PAL type 50Hz (25fps) signals to use this Firmware Upgrade.   Please note that not all TV's are multi-standard even if it is the latest model.  If in doubt please email us the Brand and model of your TV and we will check for you before making your purchase.  Please also note that after updating your firmware that you will now have to enter a 4 digit number when playing back RCE encoded Region 1 DVD's such as those from Fox Studios.  This only applies to a minority of Region 1 DVD's. Most Region 1 movies will play just as before.
