MID-DRIVE ENGINES
A mid-drive engine is essentially a motor with a transmission system. Unlike hub motors that operate on a fixed (single-speed) gear, mid-drive engines drive the bicycle crank -- the bike gears effectively become the motor's transmission. As a result, mid-drive engines provide multiple power output levels for the user, along with powerful torque performance for uphill climbs.
Motor Efficiency. The mid-drive motor drives the crank, instead of the wheel itself, which multiplies its power and allows it to better take advantage of the bike’s existing gears.
Uphill Performance. Mid-drive motors enable you to utilize the bike’s existing gears; as a result, the motor provides powerful torque performance for uphill terrain.
Center of Gravity. Mid-Drive motors are positioned close to the center, and thus more balanced. This helps improve the overall handling of your e-bike.
Easier Maintenance. You have freedom to remove and attach the rear wheel tire (using the "quick release" feature) as you please. Hub motors, on the other hand, make it extremely difficult to even change a flat tire.
Longer Battery Life. Mid-drive motors are more efficient, and thus the battery life is longer as a result.
