Serial No. 1060, it was made in 1998. The box reads "LIMITED EDITION 1944 F6F-03 HELLCAT - Another fine quality GEARBOX COLLECTIBLE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa." on one end.

    This is the U.S. Navy F6F3 #2 ("Catmouth") of VF-27 from the USS Princeton (CVL-23), Mid 1944 aircraft used in the Mariana's Turkey Shoot over Saipan. Fairly heavy plane. Approximate scale 1/43. This Hellcat holds the standard counter-shaded Navy paint scheme. The Sea Blue on the top and white on bottom were use to compromise between very dark clouds and bright clear skies when being viewed from below. The middle blue is used to blend the top and bottom colors together. This color scheme was maintained until March 1944 when the hellcats were painted Glossy Sea Blue all over.

    This plane is new in box. It has never been removed from the box. Box is near like new with minimal edge wear. Purchased in 1999 for my toy plane collection, it has remained boxed, and has never been played with or displayed. Photos are of the actual item that you are bidding on. Comes from a smoke and pet free home.
