This is because Paypal / Ebay charge a Premium fee of approx 35p PER invoice so multiple payments incur multiple fees instead of only one fee if a combined invoice is generated.

P&P fee is calculated as follows;
Cost of actual postage from Royal Mail
Actual cost of packaging
A small handling fee for the time taken to pick/pack/post
Plus Ebays postage "tax" 
Ebay charge sellers 10% of whatever postage you pay me, so for example if you pay £1.00 P&P Ive then got to give Ebay an extra 10p ! 
I cant afford to subsidise this so unfortunately it has to be built into the cost
