Presented by Geoff of Meteorite Men the TV
series!
Description:
Campo del Cielo fragment
Weight: 54.2 grams
Class: Iron meteorite,
coarse octahedrite, type IAB

Chaco, Argentina. 1596

The
Campo del Cielo meteorite was first discovered in Argentina
in 1576, making it one of Earth's oldest known meteorites. In
modern times, additional specimens have been recovered by meteorite
hunters working within the large strewnfield. Exportation of
Campo del Cielo meteorites from Argentina is now illegal, and
this popular iron—a must for any collection—is rapidly
disappearing from the marketplace.
Campo
del Cielo is a polycrystalling, coarse octahedrite comprised
over over 90% iron, approximately 7% nickel and various other
trace elements.
