The Nikon SP Rangefinder Camera represents 35mm rangefinder camera design at it best. The innovative engineering found in this camera became the platform for the now-legendary Nikon F SLR Professional camera line that followed. Echoes of many of these innovations can be found in many camera designs even today, and the Nikon SP was their birthplace.
This sale includes the SP body and the Nikkor S.C 5cm f/1.4 standard lens. The camera body is in unusually excellent condition. The body covering is very nearly perfect, and the black enamel trim finish around the body covering also is excellent,\. The bright metal top is in excellent condition, with only a couple of places on the side edges where there are minor scrapes or plating wear. The bottom metal cover of the film chamber has no dents and only a few minor scratches. The camera controls all function smoothly and precisely. The rangefinder system presents a clear and sharp image but has not been tested for calibration. The shutter works at all speeds and sounds incrementally accurate going up from the 1s speed, which measures accurately with a stopwatch. The shutter curtains have no visible flaws and appear to be in excellent condition. The camera bears s/n 6205437, a very early production unit - the SP s/n string begins at 6200000.
The lens optics are clean and bright with no fungal growth or scratches I can see. The lens settings are smooth and precise.
The lens housing is in excellent condition and has very little evidence of use.
This camera system is in very good form form and functions flawlessly.
