It’s amazing how many well-built and inexpensive electric guitars are being built today when just five years ago most of these guitars didn’t exist. The V100 AFD is an extremely  well-built Les Paul with a carved mahogany back and neck, a maple top and medium jumbo frets with WVHZ Wilkinson Zebra pickups, and Wilkinson tuners and bridge. The fingerboard is rosewood and the medium jumbo frets are very nicely installed. Pickups are Wilkinson WJ44 humbuckers, with a chrome tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece. The one-piece mahogany neck is an accurate reproduction of a ‘59 neck shape. On the back of the peghead is a small decal that reads: A John Hornby Skewes Product, designed in association with Trev Wilkinson. The peghead is small in the style of a ‘59. The Wilkinson pickups were a nice surprise. They are excellent and we would be inclined  not to replace them! They sound like a set of slightly hotter Gibson pickups. You get a little more edge and sustain at full volume. They are not shy, or bashful, but full-throated and ready to rock. The carved maple top is finished in an amber and black pattern with a traditional 2-piece vintage red back. The look and feel of this guitar is all Gibson Les Paul, including neck shape ‒ a very nice classic Les Paul carve with medium jumbo fret wire and a rosewood fingerboard. Sustain is excellent and this guitar has lots of character. It’s an easy player with a great neck and excellent fret work. The factory set up is good, with moderate string height that is consistent along the length of the neck. This guitar holds tuning very well. We needed to raise the height of the pickups just slightly, otherwise the guitar played perfectly. Feels and plays like an instrument that costs much, much more.
