Artisans in one of Rajasthan's historic block printing villages used hand carved wooden blocks to stamp designs onto the cloth. Dyes were made from natural ingredients.

If you like the style of Provence in Southern France, you'll be interested to know that these block prints are "Les Indiennes," the imported Indian cottons that inspired the French to develop their famous Provencal fabrics, beginning in the 17th century. Cotton prints from India were also popular in Britain and America.
With their historic background, block print fabrics may be just what you need for your SCA, LARP, Renaissance Faire, Civil War, reenactor, or other reproduction, period costumes. Or use them for period home furnishings.

This fabric is brand new, not "vintage." In other words, it's not used, damaged, or dirty. It is, however, folk art. Because of the way it's produced, the pattern is not perfectly uniform. If your project needs greater precision, you'll be better off with machine printed textiles. |
