The process of making elephant dung paper is a little different to making handmade paper!

The fibres are pulped by the elephant, instead of by hand or machine, whilst they are digesting, then the readymade pulp comes out the back!

The Elephant dung is collected and then vigorously boiled with margosa leaves, which are a natural disinfectant, then made into paper after mixing with 25% recycled paper.

The coarseness and shade of the elephant dung paper is entirely dependent on the elephant’s diet making each sheet unique. We source or paper from the Maximus Elephant Conservation Trust in Sri Lanka, they have their workshop on the grounds of the Millennium Elephant Foundation which is a charity that cares for sick and disabled elephants.

We are promoting this elephant dung paper, as the more people buy, the more we order, the more money the elephants get. We are helping to educate rural villages that are plagued by elephants eating crops, after their natural habitats have been taken over by humans, to see elephants as a form of income and not just as a pest.

The Sri Lankan villagers get paid for collecting Elephant dung therefore giving them a reason to live with, rather than against the elephants  .By buying this product you can give yourself a pat on the back as you are helping to preserve the lives of these majestic creatures.
