Liberon Button Shellac

( Traditional Button Shapes )
500g Bag
Shellac has been traditionally used by woodworkers for thousands of years; it is a natural resin secreted by the Lac bug. Shellac is used to make Sanding Sealer and French polish (which are basically the same just a different colour & dillution) The different types of shellac make different colours; Button Shellac makes a Golden Brown polish, Lemon Shellac make a pale golden polish, Blonde Dewaxed Shellac make a transparent polish. It’s called Dewaxed because Shellac naturally contains about 4% wax, this is removed so the polish dries clear.
Sanding sealer is just that, it seals wood before sanding, it raises and hardens the fibres, they become reasonably brittle and easily cut off by sanding, this gives a faster cut with less dust. The sealer also prevents surface coatings from soaking into the wood, this seal forms a really good base to give a longer lasting deep shine, as without this seal the final finish will be rather dull.
To apply sanding sealer stop the lathe, apply the sanding sealer with a rag, let soak in for say 30 seconds, then buff with the same rag finally, buff with a dry rag, then apply your finish coat of wax. Shellac Sanding Sealer & French Polish is quite expensive to buy, but it’s very easy to make your own. I have written below some popular recipes
Sanding Sealer

An easy to use wax filler stick with colours to match most wood finishes.
One or more colours may be mixed to get the perfect match.
Shrink resistant formula for a permanent repair.
Use on furniture, floors, skirting boards and beams.
To use simply shave off a small piece of wax and soften by working between the fingers and then press into worm holes, scratches, dents and other defects with a filler knife.
Close colour match can be obtained by mixing colours. When in doubt choose a colour shade slightly darker than the wood being filled, this makes the repair less obvious.
