Description:

Seldom seen and sometimes confused with the works of Orel Leboeuf, decoys made by Francois Dupuis, a hunting companion / friend of Orel have a similiar yet different look. This particular decoy is a good example of Dupuis' work with nicely executed layered wings and a low-profile body. I believe this to be an early decoy by Dupuis as while it is a nice decoy, it is not the finest decoy I have or have seen by the maker. This decoy sports the high alert erect head and detailed wing carving that Dupuis is known for and a simple, yet working paint scheme. If you like old working decoys from Quebec, this one definately has some history behind it.

Condition:

In mainly original paint with some possible light touch up. Dupuis decoys were never known to be painted well, so sometimes it is hard to tell what is original and what is not. It is very nice structurally but does have two nails that were driven down through the neck to help hold it in tightly place, though the head is still slightly loose.

Please look over all the photos for a complete and sometimes clearer assessment of the decoys condition. I have tried to capture the true essence of the decoy with the photos, but please let me know if you would like any additional images. Please also remember that most of the decoys I list will be old working decoys that have been hunted, sometimes shot, and typically worn. I suggest a thorough vetting of the photos and the description to make sure the decoy is up to your requirements.

Historical Decoy Information:

Seldom seen and sometimes confused with the works of Orel Leboeuf, decoys made by Francois Dupuis, a hunting companion / friend of Orel, have a very similar but notably different look. For starters, Dupuis decoys have a very erect head that has slightly less detail than Leboeuf. They also lack the standard three feather carvings that is typical on the shoulders of all Leboeuf decoys. The Dupuis name is famous in the Lake St. Francis region of Quebec and information about the carver can be found in many Quebec decoy books. Dupuis was a resident of Saint Anicet, Quebec. Info on Dupuis can be found in the book Sculpteurs D'Appelants Du Quebec by St. Onge.
