Stunning 1959 Rolex Oyster Perpetual ‘Butterfly Movement’ Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

This is a simply stunning Rolex Oyster Perpetual dating from 1959. The solid steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear – very minor ding on the outside case back – happy to send the original pictures. The original Rolex signed crisp white (please see picture 6 for the colour of the steel batons and hands) dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is just wonderfully understated. The applied steel hour batons and the original steel hands (blued steel second hand) flow into the dial and blend perfectly with the gleaming case. The steel Rolex signed Oyster crown is again in excellent condition and working perfectly. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic ‘Butterfly’ movement has just been serviced by my professional watchmaker. To complete this beautiful watch we’ve added a new, high quality black Hirsch & Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile skin strap with steel Hirsch buckle. This is a simply beautiful and incredibly rare piece at a lower price than an entry level steel Oyster….. If history is any judge it will only increase in value.

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The Case

The solid steel case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear – very minor ding on the outside case back – happy to send the original pictures. The case measures 33 mm’s across excluding the Rolex signed crown and 40 mm’s long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland Patented’, ‘Stainless Steel’ and the case reference is ‘6565’ (Rolex used the case back for most Oysters at this time and often scored out another reference (6564 on this occasion). The age reference is ‘1.59’ dating it to 1959.

The Dial

The original Rolex signed crisp white (please see picture 6 for the colour of the steel batons and hands) dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is just wonderfully understated. The applied steel hour batons and the original steel hands (blued steel second hand) flow into the dial and blend perfectly with the gleaming case. The dial is signed ‘Rolex Oyster Perpetual’, ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ and ‘T Swiss T’.

The Strap

To complete this beautiful watch we’ve added a new, high quality black Hirsch & Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile skin strap with steel Hirsch buckle.

Couriering and Pre-Delivery Inspection

We use the Royal Mail’s Guaranteed next day service for UK sales and DHL for all overseas shipping. All our watches are fully serviced, but prior to couriering each one will undergo a 3 day pre-delivery check to ensure the watch is in perfect condition.
