HERE IS A FACT MOST BLIND MAKERS WONT TELL YOU ABOUT BLACKOUT
Lining is blackout A blind is not totally blackout, you never get 100% blackout in a roman blind not even hand sewn blind
A roman will let light in down each side & along bottom, and at any point where the blackout lining is stiched through
so there is no such thing as total blackout , but a room is much much much darker than a blind without blackout

WORKING OUT YOUR BLIND SIZE

FIRST DECIDE IF YOU WANT YOUR BLIND INSIDE THE RECESS
OUTSIDE THE RECESS ON A WALL
ON A SASH WINDOW FRAME
IN A BAY

INFORMATION AND HOW TO MEASURE INSIDE A RECESS
INSIDE A RECESS MEANS YOU CAN HAVE MATCHING CURTAINS OR PELMET ON THE WALL AROUND THE RECESS
ALSO IDEAL IF YOU HAVE CUPBOARDS OR FURNITURE CLOSE TO THE WINDOW EDGE
FOR THE WIDTH MEASURE ACROSS THE WINDOW AT THE TOP THE MIDDLE AND THE BOTTOM TAKE THE NARROWEST WIDTH AND DEDUCT 1 cm OVERALL FOR MOVEMENT THIS IS YOUR FINISHED BLIND WIDTH
IF YOU HAVE ANY OBSTRUCTIONS IN THE RECESS I.E. TILES, ARCHITRAVE, PIPES, YOU MUST TAKE THESE INTO ACCOUNT AND MEASURE THE WIDTH WHERE THERE ARE ANY RESTRICTIONS
FOR THE DROP MEASURE EACH SIDE AND IN THE CENTER THE FINISHED DROP IS THE SHORTEST OF THESE 3 YOU DO NOT NEED TO DEDUCT ANYTHING

INFORMATION AND HOW TO MEASURE OUTSIDE A RECESS
IN FACT WHEN UP THEY ARE PULLED THEY LOOK LIKE A PELMET AND FRAME THE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDOW
YOU CAN ACTUALLY HANG THEM AS HIGH ABOVE A WINDOW AS YOU LIKE THIS MEANS THEY DON'T HAVE TO CUT OUT ANY LIGHT AND YOU CAN HAVE SOME OF THE BLIND HANGING DOWN TO SEE THE LOVELY FABRIC
PLUS THEY DON'T INTERFERE WITH ANYTHING YOU MIGHT WANT TO PUT ON YOUR WINDOW SILL OR GET CAUGHT ON WIDOW LATCHES
IT’S THE BEST PLACE TO HANG THEM IF YOUR WINDOW IS NOT SQUARE
IF OUTSIDE A WINDOW RECESS JUST MEASURE 2-3" PAST EACH SIDE OF THE RECESS FOR WIDTH OR WIDER IF YOU LIKE
AND HOWEVER MUCH YOU WANT ABOVE AND BELOW

INFORMATION AND HOW TO MEASURE FOR SASH WINDOWS
BLINDS ON SASH WINDOWS LOOK BEST IF COVERING ALL OF THE WOOD FRAME WHEN THE BLIND IS DOWN
IF THE TOP OF THE SASH WINDOW IS NOT 100% STRAIGHT YOU CAN STILL FIX THE BLIND ONTO THE WOOD FRAME AS LONG AS YOU ENSURE THAT THE BLIND IS FITTED LEVEL YOU WILL NOT SEE BEHIND IT THAT THE TOP OF THE WINDOW IS NOT LEVEL
FOR THE WIDTH MEASURE ACROSS THE WINDOW AND ALL OF THE FRAME AT THE TOP THE MIDDLE AND THE BOTTOM TAKE THE WIDEST WIDTH AND ADD 4 cm OVERALL, THIS IS YOUR FINISHED BLIND WIDTH
FOR THE DROP MEASURE EACH SIDE AND IN THE CENTER FROM THE VERY TOP OF WOOD SURROUND TO ABOUT 2 cm BELOW THE SILL THE FINISHED DROP IS THE LONGEST OF THESE MEASUREMENTS
ON A SASH WINDOW YOU CAN, IF YOU WANT TO, HAVE THEM WIDER THAN THE FRAME BY HOWEVER MUCH YOU WANT THEM AND PLACE THEM HIGHER THAN THE WINDOW THIS IS A PERSONAL CHOICE OPTION

INFORMATION AND HOW TO MEASURE FOR BAY WINDOWS
BAYS ARE VERY VERY VERY RARELY STRAIGHT SQ OR LEVEL SO IF YOU ARE MEASURING FOR A BAY PLEASE SEND UP PICTURES OF THE BAY FROM A DISTANCE AND CLOSE UPS OF THE TOPS THE ANGLES AND THE SILLS AND WE WILL SEND YOU DETAILED INFORMATION FOR MEASURING
BAY WINDOWS LOOK MUCH NICER IF THE BLINDS MEET DOWN THE CORNER AND DON'T OVERLAP
THE BLINDS WILL ALWAYS BE PATTERN MATCHED ALONG THE TOP
THEY WILL ALWAYS BE INDIVIDUALLY CENTRALIZED ON THE PATTERN WHICH MEANS THAT EACH BLIND WILL NOT PATTERN MATCH UP THE SIDES TO THE BLIND EITHER SIDE OF IT THIS IS NORMAL FOR BAY WINDOWS
IF WE WERE TO MATCH UP THE SIDES THE PATTERNS WOULD NOT BE CENTRALIZED AND THEY LOOK REALLY ODD WE CAN SEND PICTURES FOR YOU TO SEE IF YOU ARE BUYING BAY BLINDS FROM US
WE WILL MATCH THEM UP THE SIDES IF YOU INSIST BUT WE NEVER ADVISE IT AS USUALLY EVERY BLIND ON A BAY IS A DIFFERENT WIDTH MAYBE ONLY BY A CM OR TWO BUT THIS THEN MAKES THE BLINDS LOOK LOPSIDED IF THE INDIVIDUAL BLINDS ARE NOT CENTRALIZED
THE QUALITY OF OUR ROMAN BLINDS

MACHINE MADE BLINDS
We make machine and hand sewn blinds
A machine sewn blind can be unlined  plain lined or thermally or blackout lined, it has machine stitched sides hems and tops and 1 row of machine stitched tape across the fabric per rod, when made professionally they look as neat and tidy as hand sewn blinds,  Machine made blinds are a nice option if you just need a blind for a spare room a bathroom a kitchen, where you don't want or need the finished look of a hand made blind. If you would prefer a hand made interlined blind just request a quote

FABRIC WIDTHS
Most fabric width are normally 145 cm some fabric are wider but not many, so to make a blind from one width of fabric there needs to be side turnings so the max width most blinds can be is approx 135 cm finished size after side fold.     So blinds over this width will be made with 2 fabric widths, the second width is cut in 2 and a panel is sewn on each side of the blind, this is normal in all roman blind manufacture of wider blinds on narrow width fabrics . We always pattern match the join, On plain fabrics and some prints the seam is more noticeable, and the seam is always noticeable when a blind is down with daylight behind

FABRIC PRINTS
Please note, most printed fabric are very rarely printed 100% straight across a fabric, this is acceptable in the trade.
Legally the print in a fabric can be up to 4 cm out of line. On curtains this is not noticable as they are gathered, but on A roman blind that is flat fabric this can sometimes show across the fabric that the pattern is not 100% straight.  A blind will always be made straight on the pattern print vertically as fabric for a blind has to be cut sq or it cannot fold straight
