Up for sale are some wonderful looking Whiting sugar cube tongs in the Henery Hubbard designed, "Ivy" pattern which was purchased by Whiting in the late 1800s.

The markings on these are faint but there is plenty to make a positive ID. One leg is marked with Sterling  1 and the other side has the Cerebus (partial) and Pat'D 1866. I'm not sure of the manufacture date since the pattern was patented in 1866 but doesn't mean produced then. Whiting used a date code for pieces post 1901 until they were purchased by Gorham in 1924. There is what appears to be a "1" mark but it doesn't correspond to any factory date mark unless it's supposed to be for 1918

The pattern has some great detail and shows some wear on the mask and ivy leaves. There is a small piece of old masking tape stuck inside the tongs that has long since dried up and is stuck pretty firmly. I didn't try to remove it and will let the new owner decide that to do.

They have taken a polishing nicely and the detail really shows in good light. The measures 5 1/4" long and weigh 33 grams

They are not personalized or monogrammed in any way.
