Autograph Letter Signed ‘William’, to Sir L.H.Halsted [but probably Lawrence William Halsted] at St. Germain en Laye, rejoicing that Lord Melville has promoted Halsted’s son. 1 page 9 x 7 inches, in fine condition, folded, with the original autograph wrapper, signed ‘Clarence’, with red wax seal. Bushey House, 12 February 1829.

King William IV (reigned 1830-1837). Edward Pellew Halsted, son of Admiral Sir Lawrence William Halsted, obtained his first commission in the Navy on 28 January 1829. He served in China in the naval operations of 1842. Sir Lawrence William Halsted GCB (1764 – 1841) was an officer of the Royal Navy who served during the American War of Independence and the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
