This jacket is advertised by Columbia as being totally waterproof and breathable. The Outdry technology puts the waterproof layer on the outside, instead of sandwiched between layers, and it doesn't have a waterproof coating that can wear off. The result is an extremely waterproof shell. I think it would be great for activities that don't create a lot of body heat, like fishing, ballgames, etc. I'm not convinced it would work as well for high levels of activity, but I have not tried it. The jacket has a rubbery feel, and seems highly durable. In the right situation, I think it would be perfect. Columbia says:
