Here for your consideration is a magnificent and extremely rare, antique Victorian, 1844, solid silver, Nathaniel Mills, castle-top, card case, depicting an unusual view of Windsor Castle. The scene shown being an extremely rare view of the castle's private church (St George's Chapel) with the round tower dominating the background.

This is as good as it gets with regards card cases, an extremely rare find ..... I've only got one, once it's gone .... it's gone. You might never find another one this good, and if there's one thing I've learned about antiques/collectables, when items are of quality and extremely rare, he who hesitates usually loses out. 

A very rare, early, Victorian hallmarked silver, castle-top card case, depicting a delightful castle view, made by Nathaniel Mills in Birmingham in 1844. The repousse relief workmanship in this card case is without doubt some of the best we've ever seen !!

This example is in fine, original condition. It features finely engraved floral/leaf scrolls on an engine turned ground, centred to verso by a C-scroll vacant cartouche. Under the lid is marked with an N.M makers mark for Nathaniel Mills, in addition to Queen Victoria's head duty mark, the lion passant, with Birmingham anchor assay office mark and the gothic date letter "V" for 1844.

Condition: A beautiful example of a very rare castle-top card case by the very best Birmingham silver maker. This delightful card case is in very good original condition, with no dents, splits or damage. It does have some beautiful age related silver patination, commensurate with 172 years of age, but nothing unusual.

This stylish card case has stunning engine turned decoration, with beautiful floral backgrounds and superbly detailed high relief three-dimensional scenes of Windsor castle, in very good original condition. A real must for any serious silver collector !!

Nathaniel Mills ...

A registered silversmith in Birmingham, between 1826-1857 and is undoubtedly, the most famous Victorian silversmith in making castle-top pieces. Nathaniel Mills castle-top pieces are highly collectable, and would add value to any silver collection. 

Windsor Castle ... 

Windsor Castle is one of the three official residences of HRH Queen Elizabeth II. It is the largest inhabited castle in the world and also the oldest at over nine hundred years old. The Royal Standard flag flies over Windsor castle when the Queen is in residence - at other times, the Union Jack flag flies in its place. The origins of Windsor were in the 7th Century saxon settlement of Windlesora, where the present day village of Old Windsor is located.
