Roland JV-1080 Synthesiser, SR-JV-80 sounds, Vintage Rack Module, Made in Japan
Roland claim the JV-1080 has been used on more recordings than any synth in history. According to Vintage Synth Explorer:
"The Roland JV-1080 was one of the hottest and most popular digital synthesizers ever to come from Roland. Incredible sound quality capable of emulating any instrument imaginable plus totally fat analog synth type sounds and loads of percussion! It has 64 voices of polyphony and 16 part multitimbral, it's no wonder this is part of almost every Film Score Composers set-up as well as many more artists and hobbyists!"
"The JV1080, especially when fully stuffed, has an awesome timbral capability"
"Seems to have a remarkably clear, uncluttered sound, even with many parts playing simultaneously"
The JV-1080 is a 2U rack box in typical Roland style with a black, brushed aluminium front panel, LCD display, headphone socket with volume control and a pretty complete set of buttons & knobs. It has four sockets for SR-JV80 expansion boards plus two front panel card slots for a PCM card and a Data card. The JV-1080 has two stereo outputs (outputs 1 & 2) plus a stereo mix out. It has onboard effects including chorus, delay and reverb. The effects can be enabled on a per-voice basis and stored as part of a preset
The features of the JV-1080, and its relationship to other JV / XV modules, are shown in this table
The JV-1080 is beautifully built and finished, the product of an era when keyboards were expensive and high quality was the norm. List price in 1994 was £1085
