Here for your consideration is an exquisite pair of Chinese, Yixing terracotta Vases, of baluster form made from red clay with Chinese script markings top and bottom and decorated with five dragons set in relief on each vase. The colour and patination of these vases is absolutely fabulous, superb colouring and beautifully decorated with really sharp engravings.

Yixing Vases ...

Yixing teapots/vases are made from Yixing clay. This traditional style commonly used to brew tea originated in China, and are made from clay produced near Yixing in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. Yixing vases and teapots have a history that dates back to the Sung Dynasty (960-1279) when purple clay was first mined around Lake Taihu in China. Their unpretentious earthy tones and subtle beauty flourished and matured in the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1573-1911). Along with the earliest tea shipments to Europe, initiating a tea drinking tradition that continues today. In the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, scholars variously praised and collected this renowned classic Che workmanship that's gone into these Yixing vases is absolutely superb, and the colour and patina over the years, has just added to these exquisite vases.
